Care for Your Leather and Sheepskin Jackets and Coat

  • First and foremost leather jackets and sheepskin coats are luxurious garments and not to be manhandled, thrown around or tossed on the floor, treat them with care and they will easily last you for years.

  • Avoid all contact or abrasion with rough surfaces such as leaning on a wall which has exposed brickwork. Be particularly careful of sharp or pointy objects that you could snag your garment against, such as a loose nail or door handle.

  • Avoid moisture, rain and dirt, especially for light coloured coats and jackets. You should be ok if you get caught in a light drizzle but leather is not practical as a raincoat. If you do get caught in a torrential down poor then allow your leather jacket or sheepskin coat to dry naturally on a flat surface, do not hang it up to dry! Whatever you do don’t place it on a radiator or close to any heat source!

  • Use leather care products such as creams and lotions to prevent your garment from losing moisture and revitalise the natural oils in the leather. If you are unsure on which type of care products to use seek advice from where you purchased your garment. Furthermore it is also highly advisable to test a small area of the leather that is hidden from view, somewhere on the inside for example, as a precautionary measure to ensure the product does not stain or damage you jacket or coat.

  • Always store in a low humidity area and hang it on a good quality sturdy hanger to avoid your garment being misshaped. A plastic or fabric cover is also recommended but not essential.
It’s just like anything really love, cherish and care for your possessions and they will last, the biggest cost is effort.

The years seem to fly by quicker and quicker year upon year. As always the New Year brings with it a variety of traditions and resolutions for many of us to interpret and adopt any way that suits us. From New Year’s Eve celebrations with family and friends or resolutions of sobriety and healthy eating accompanied with more exercise to combat the typical overindulgence we treat ourselves to over the festive period. To taking charge in the mad hustle and bustle of the January Sales in search of that bargain you’ve had your eye for what seems like forever. Instead, why not do your sale shopping online? After all you can do it from the comfort of your own home and avoid facing the prospect of no stock left in that particular shop or going to war with a stranger over that last pair of jeans as well as all the other unpleasantries you may come across.
