Imitations of leather jackets are becoming more common
nowadays as the high street looks to cut costs and maintain profits. Leather
isn’t the only apparel victimised, in general the quality of many clothes out
there from our beloved brands have steadily decreased over the last 10 years.
Which is odd really, as consumers, especially during this economic uncertainty,
we are feeling the pinch on our purses, whilst prices inflate and quality
downturns. It begs the question, ‘what are we getting for our money?’ Bargains
can still be found, it just takes some trawling.
So how can you tell apart real leather from fake? Price used
to be a good indication but in this era it’s not a full proof guideline.
However if you stick to the following 3 tips you should be fine
- The Tag – In the EU it is a legal requirement for clothing to specify exactly what materials it is comprised of. (i.e genuine leather or 100% leather)
- Texture – Faux leather is likely to feel synthetic or feel like a blend of materials.
- Smell – If you’ve ever stepped into a leather shop they have a certain aroma, some would describe it as a ‘woodsy’ smell.
